Emotional Healing
Through Faith

Healing is a choice, especially emotional healing, such as abuse, betrayal, infidelity, or bereavement.
A mind troubled by emotions is like a frozen computer screen that simply will not shut down. The same negative images stubbornly stay put and simply will not go away.
Some people may turn to a psychologist or psychiatrist for help, while others may turn to God.
However, even turning to the Almighty God may not help, especially if you think all you need is God. Emotional healing requires more than that: God wants you to connect with other human beings to facilitate your own emotional healing. But this is exactly what you may not want: connections with God and with others.
The characteristics of a troubled mind are:
| ˇ |
An emotionally disturbed individual is reluctant to open up to others, or even to God.
|
| ˇ |
An individual with a troubled past may have a negative bent towards insincerity or dishonesty with others about the past experience.
|
| ˇ |
An individual with a troubled mind is afraid of rejection by others. |
Being uncomfortable about connections with God and with others is only natural. But it is only through these uncomfortable connections that natural healing is able to take place; and this is where living in faith comes in to play a pivotal role in the natural healing and recovery process.
You need living in faith to take that initial step to re-connect yourself with God and with others; you need living in faith to open up yourself to others; you need living in faith to be honest with others about your past; and you need living in faith to overcome your fear of rejection by others. Without living in faith, there is no natural healing. Therefore, emotional healing is a choice you have to make.
It is God's plan that we come to depend on one another as one body in Christ: "though we are many, we are one body in union with Christ, and we are all joined to each other as different parts of one body" (Romans 12: 5). We should share our emotions to facilitate emotional healing and recovery: "Be happy with those who are happy, weep with those who weep." (Romans 12: 15)
Throughout His life, Jesus demonstrated the importance of connections with God and others:
| ˇ |
Jesus showed us on various occasions how to connect with God through fasting and prayer.
|
| ˇ |
Jesus wanted the children to come to Him (Luke 18: 15-17).
|
| ˇ |
Jesus wanted to connect with the woman at the well - the story of the woman of Samaria (John 4: 4-42).
|
| ˇ |
Jesus connected with the rich young man, the poor, the sick, and people from all walks of life. |
Make the healing choice to connect in order to heal your emotions.
How do you begin your emotional healing connections?
| ˇ |
Connect with God by studying God's Word. As you grow in knowledge and wisdom, your faith, too, will strengthen.
Sustain your connections with God through daily prayers and meditations.
Your connections with God will bring about positive changes of behavior, critical to emotional healing.
|
| ˇ |
Take a healing risk of connecting with others. You will learn that all is not perfect, but it is in learning the imperfections of others that your faith strengthens. In addition, you will come to know that the element of faith is central to many people's lives. Living in faith enables you to look deep into the hearts of others. It is like the depth and feeling which artists and sculptors gained through their faith and expressed in such profound ways that touch the hearts of many.
For example, the paintings of the Sistine Chapel by Michelangelo, or the sculpture of Bernini's "Ecstasy of Saint Teresa" of Avila in marble - they all capture the exquisite moment of total communion and connections with God. |

Begin your connections with God and others through living in faith. Love, devotion, confession, forgiveness, and prayer will deepen your connections with God through worship and fellowship. Only with living in faith can you find the way out of your emotional turmoil, and only faith can bring about natural healing of the mind.
